Telecel announces roaming service

telecel-new-brandingTELECEL, Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile network by subscribers, on Wednesday launch a post-paid data roaming service for the network’s post-paid contract customers. The data roaming service will allow travelling post-paid customers to use their Telecel network to access data services from their mobile phones while using their local network mobile number.

Telecel has concluded roaming agreements for its pre-paid service with South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, and Malawi amongst seven other African countries.

“This latest service is aimed at ensuring continued connectivity and convenience for our traveling customers so that they can use their local mobile number while abroad not only for voice calls but also for mobile data,” said the company’s communications and branding Director, Obert Mandimika.

To activate their pre-paid roaming lines telecel customers must dial *33156# while still in Zimbabwe and follow the menu instructions. Customers need to ensure they have an adequate balance in their mobile phones before they travel to cover the cost of roaming.

“We have already have over 360 roaming partners for our voice services and our move to add 58 international data roaming partners will ensure our customers do not have to experience the nuisance of being disconnected from their network while travelling,” said Mandimika.

The company expects to add more international data roaming partners soon.

Telecel has also unveiled prepaid international roaming services to selected countries, allowing the network’s pre-paid customers to use their Telecel Go lines in neighbouring countries. The voice roaming services have previously only been available to post-paid contract customers.

“Our pre-paid roaming service is inclusive as it allows our pre-paid customers to also enjoy roaming services which were previously available to post-paid customers only. The advantage of pre-paid roaming is that there are no shock bills as you can plan ahead how much you want to use while roaming,” explained Mandimika.
