Pop stars hit back after Halsey comments

Battle of the pop stars? We won't see these three together on stage anytime soon.

Battle of the pop stars? We won’t see these three together on stage anytime soon.

POP stars Iggy Azalea and Demi Lovato have both hit back at singer Halsey after she accused them of racial and sexual bias.

In an interview with The Guardian, Halsey said she would never use Azalea in one of her records, accusing her of having a “complete disregard for black culture” and of being a “f****** moron”.

“I watched her career dissolve and it fascinated me,” she added.

Days before, in an interview to Paper magazine, the openly bisexual pop star targeted Demi Lovato, accusing her of turning bisexuality into a taboo.

“That narrative is so f****** damaging to bisexuality and its place in society,” she said, naming the lyrics of Lovato’s song Cool For The Summer.

On Friday, Lovato tweeted an apparent response, writing: “You know a song is a hit when people are still talking about the lyrics two years later. #shhhhdonttellyourmother.”

As for Azalea, her response was sharper, telling Australian radio show Smallzy’s Surgery she found it “a bit weird to bring someone up in an interview that you weren’t asked about”.

“To me, because I’m a famous person and I know a lot of the time people have opinions and they’re not always accurate, I really try very hard not to give my personal opinions about people that I don’t know,” Azalea continued.

“And I don’t know her, I’ve never met her.”

“I thought it was a bit of a strange thing to throw that out there, but she’s young and I hope she learns maybe to be a bit less judgemental when she’s kind of in the same shoes,” she added.

“I’m sure she’s getting judged all the time as well by people who don’t really know her. So I think maybe it’d be good for her to try to be a little more empathetic to other people that are in the same situation.”

Halsey has just released her second studio album, has been compared to Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga and is the first female artist to go to number one in the US charts this year.

“Everyone thought I would be excited,” she told NME.

“And I was, but I think there are so many women who’ve put out better albums than me that deserve that. So all we can do is keep shining a light on the female artists that we love and give them the exposure they deserve.” – news.sky.com
